There are as many different ways to photograph a pregnant belly and the anticipation of a new baby as there are moms- and dads-to-be. And, since I just photographed one of these newborns this morning (and the other isn’t far behind), I thought I’d better get on the ball (or, in this case, the belly) and get these blogged. The first set is an example of an on-location, natural light maternity session. The second is one of my recent mini-maternity sessions held in-studio. Maternity sessions are best held during the period between 32-36 weeks pregnant and are scheduled in conjunction with a Signature Newborn Session or Baby’s First Year Program. As always, I let mom decide how much or how little belly/body to show during the session. I love them all – be it in-studio or on location – and I get even more excited thinking about those perfect little beings I’ll get to meet in the weeks ahead.

I’ve got six sessions waiting to be blogged and am so excited to share this one.  It’s been about a 50/50 split lately of boys to girls, but sweet Meredith gets the prize for the most hair in May. I love it! She slept like a dream during our session which made my job so much easier.  Dad served as spotter for the shots on the suitcase (just in case anyone out there is wondering if we just planted her on top and left her up there). It helps so much to have an extra set of hands at the ready to ensure we don’t compromise safety during a session.

These are just a few of my favorites – you’ll be seeing her here during her first year as well. Congratulations to mom and dad for a job well done!

I’m behind on blogging, but they’ve got just a few more days to go until they meet their son and I instantly fell in love with these images – and their obvious affection for each other – while editing. We shot at 7:30 p.m. before sunset and the light was beyond perfect. I love that time of day for sessions! We even managed a little bit of sunburst behind them kissing. This was a Signature Maternity Session incorporating both outdoor, natural light on-location (in this case, an old barn and its surroundings) and an indoor studio session featuring fun, clothed shots and also several more artfully done  ‘boudoir’ maternity shots.  (Which I would love to show you, but I will save those for my clients.) I also offer Mini Maternity Sessions which are shorter and feature either natural light, on location photography or in-studio styling. Both types of maternity sessions are only available with a Signature Newborn Session or a Signature First Year Program.

You’ll see Baby Jax here on the blog in about three weeks, too. Can’t wait to meet him!

Note: June and July are booked and August is nearly full. If you’re pregnant and expecting this fall, call to schedule now to ensure a slot.
