He’s still quite the little thinker, sizing me up with a furrowed brow and those beautiful dark eyes throughout our session. But I’m confident in saying he can add mover, shaker and charmer to his famous moniker now that he’s a one-year-old on the move.
To which I say gleefully:
“Sam, oh the places you will go. Oh the people you will see!”
… that they make each other laugh.
That they share the same sense of wonder … and their own little language.
That the big ones set a good example and keep a watchful eye over the little ones. And that the little ones unabashedly adore them. That last names and lineage aren’t the only things that connect them, for they are also friends.
That they will always be this close.
When I look back at the newborn sessions, more often than not, I find myself marveling over how quickly the first year goes by. It was no different when I saw Jax again for his recent family session.
I melted over his curls. And his eyes. And the outfits.
I think his mom said it best when she saw one of his newborn images freshly blogged:
“Well hello, gorgeous.”
I did the math and if I don’t start blogging a few times daily, you’re going to be seeing summer sessions in December. So without further ado, here are several colorful favorites from two recent sessions in downtown Kansas City featuring the little guys.
First up, Will and Tyler. We shot Will’s 4-year session just before Tyler was born and then the two of them appeared here again at Tyler’s newborn session. Fast-forward a bit and you have our latest session. Yes, they are handsome little men, aren’t they?
With so many sessions yet to be blogged, I thought it was time to round out the string of babies with something different. I shoot lots of different session types, including families and commercial work. And while I don’t market solely to high school seniors, I love shooting them! It’s a great balance between the unpredictable nature of my littlest subjects and the relaxed, more fashion-inspired sessions for seniors.
I met Katie through her older sister, a child photography client, and my brain was instantly in overdrive as we talked outfits, locations and her own personal sense of style. Then came the discovery of the vintage blue prom dress while I was out shopping one day. It had Katie written all over it and that blue is my new favorite obsession. She didn’t even have to alter it!
She’s an amazing young woman on her way to so many great opportunities – as beautiful inside as she is out. And she has a gaggle (yes, I just said “gaggle”) of older siblings watching out for her. To quote big sis, “My little sister is a hottie!”
Why yes, yes she is.
Meet Katie, Class of 2012.

Classic baby
I love a vintage prop and color pop as much as the next girl, but I also believe that, no matter the pose or the accessories, the focus of a newborn session should always be the nuances of that tiny little person.
The “smallness.”
The “curlyness.”
The “furryness.”
The “I just want to bottle that newborn baby smell and smother you with kisses …. ness.”
(G’head, nose on up to your screen. I won’t tell.)
Here are some of my favorites of Quinn and his beautiful mama “before” and “after.”
