I’m a maternity, newborn, baby, child and high school senior photographer located in Kansas City and this is where I post peeks each week from the latest sessions as well as updates on scheduling, special promotions and more.  You’re also invited to check out my full website at www.kamibradyphotography.com. Beneath each post here, after the very last image, is a Comments section where you can leave a comment or question. I love hearing from you!

Now booking 2012 maternity/newborn/child/senior/family sessions:

As I hold out a specific number of newborn sessions each month to ensure I offer everyone my very best time and attention, it’s never too soon to get on the books for 2012.  If you’re an expectant mother, schedule your session prior to the baby’s birth to ensure we hold time slots around your baby’s due date for a newborn session within the first 5-10 days of life.

This mom had both an eye and an appreciation for all things vintage, all things color and oh boy  … er … girl … did we work it. Baby girl was simply gorgeous with a head of dark hair and those perfect little lips and olive skin. And big sister actually struck those standing poses on her own without coaching. Yes, I was pinching myself. I mean, when it comes to photographing toddler siblings, it’s a toss up as to how much interaction they will have with the family’s newest attention-stealer baby.

I love everything about this session! If my memory serves me right, I “think” this was my first newborn in the newly renovated studio space. More on that very soon — I’ve got tons of pictures to share of our “before” and “after” remodel.

I think it looks like she might be saying “girl power!” in this next one:

Me, that is! I’ve just been the usual, annual crazy busy with fall/holiday sessions, holiday card designs, birth announcement designs, newborn sessions, orders and packaging. The blog always gets more than a little neglected this time of year, but with so many long days and late nights already, my focus has to stay on getting galleries post-processed and orders completed. There are so many great sessions I want to share (and will share) once I get past the next week.

In the meantime, someone else is kicking as well – and he/she will make an appearance in just a few short weeks – eeek (so excited!) I’ve photographed this stunning mama and her beautiful belly twice now, as well as her first baby (soon-to-be big sister) throughout her first year; and there’s simply no greater compliment than being asked back to capture the growth of their family.

Some of my favorites:

I’ll be the first to admit I swoon over the latest Matilda Jane dresses with their vintage-inspired, girly girl styling.

But somewhere between her 3 and 4-year photo sessions, I came to the realization that those outfits just aren’t “her.” She’s our dig-in-the-dirt, obsessed-with-dinosaurs-and-rocks, I’d-rather-be-hanging-upside-down-on-the-monkey-bars kind of girl. And don’t even think about asking for one of those silly, pink girl toys in a Happy Meal. We’ll take the Power Rangers, Buzz and Woody, and Lightning McQueen, thank you very much.

So when it came time to plan her 5-year session, I asked her what she’d like to do and her response was simple: Take pictures with my lion and swim in the ocean. I had a vision for a vintage swimsuit and searched high and low until I found just the right one with matching swim cap. I commissioned the very talented Vera at Seventh Avenue Designs to draw the whimsical ocean overlays and love how they turned out! Visit her Etsy store for more wonderful goodies.

With the help of Grandma Gail, we managed to squeeze this session in despite having packed up nearly everything in the studio for the big renovation. Even though her birthday was in April, I’m just now getting around to sharing these – some of my all-time favorite images of my own little rockstar. It’s a long blog post, but I haven’t shared images of her in quite awhile.

October is jam-packed, but I have a few dates in early November still open. I am considering studio mini-sessions (20 minutes) for 1-2 children (4 months or older) for clients wanting a simple holiday photo and a digital file or custom cards vs. a full, styled session. Spots are open to current clients first. Shoot me an email if you would like to snag a spot/get more details: kami “at” kamibradyphotography  ”dot” com.

I love it when perfect symbols (unintentional or otherwise) make their way into my sessions, especially this signature maternity session. When I’m first composing a shot, I’m initially thinking about the person I’m photographing – do I want this to be a closeup, 3/4 shot, full body? Horizontal or vertical orientation? What kind of in-camera cropping will I compose for? How is their clothing hanging? Are their hands loose and relaxed or balled up? Where is the light falling? What kind of expression do I want?

Then, after all of that, I double check the background making sure there isn’t something I would want to Photoshop out later. Or, in this case, something significant or meaningful that I want to compose around.

Like these circles:

And what pregnant mama hasn’t heard the following bit of advice? (The harsh light wasn’t ideal in this location, but I spotted the words as we were walking back to the cars and couldn’t resist.)

Once again, we were joking when she scheduled her maternity session that baby would likely come well ahead of her due date SIMPLY because she booked it with me. Remember the track record of early babies over the last four months?

Well, guess who arrived early?

We shot this session at their home which is a nice change every now and again from the studio sessions I normally do – it also allows us to incorporate the baby’s nursery in a bigger fashion. The beautiful rocking horse is a family heirloom:

Proving once again I really am funny:
