Happy Valentine’s Day from our house to yours. Yesterday was the big party at “school” and, as you can imagine, we’re still a little hyped up on sugar. As I type this, she’s just finished her fourth sucker since the party. Here’s to hoping that although she inherited my front teeth and major overbite, she gets the flawless cavity record of Andrew and me. Time will tell! Enjoy a couple of quick snaps from the festivities.

We’ve followed them throughout their entire first year, beginning with this session. Now, they’re one-year-old and I was fortunate enough to capture the more photo journalistic shots at their party so mom could focus on being “mom” and just enjoy the moments. Here are a few of my favorite sights from the afternoon’s celebrations:

“All this celebration sure makes me tired!”

I’m so excited! My blog and main website both have new looks! It’s a new year after all and time to ramp things up to align a lot more closely with my brand. The blog tweaks are subtle, most noticeably the awesome slideshow at the top. Beneath each post is an opportunity for you to add a comment and now those are a bit more clear, too. Big props to Heather at Lovebugs Photography Designs for A+ assistance on the blog design changes. The website changes are much, much more noticeable and something I’ve worked night and day on (or at least it seems) for the past two weeks. There you will find all new portfolio galleries, new session creative fee pricing and digital collections for 2009, tons of client testimonials and a link to a newly designed client proofing/galleries area as well. An exciting change for 2009:  You can purchase collections that include all of the high-resolution digital files from your session for safekeeping, sharing and printing on your own whenever you choose! I trialed these collections in the latter half of 2008 and they proved to be popular, so they’re definitely a must-have for this year. I’ll also be adding several new products that allow you to get creative with the ways you display your images. Stay tuned for more.

In the meantime, I invite you to visit the new website and please pass it along. If you’re a past client or friend/family member of a past client, you’ll likely see some familiar faces out there!

New Year’s Special
To celebrate finally being done with the design changes, I’m offering a New Year’s special: $25 off of any session fee and a complimentary 8×10 for new sessions booked by the end of January 2009. The sessions can take place anytime this year, but need to be officially scheduled by the end of this month. I’m now booking for the busy primetime Spring and Summer months as we speak, so don’t wait too long to inquire. This is for past and new clients. Just mention you saw or heard about it on the blog.

And I couldn’t post without an image, so here’s a shot of the new website:

Just a few images of our Christmas Eve Day morning and afternoon, spent making and decorating sugar cookies for Santa. It was Bella’s first time to help Grandma with the coveted recipe and the pictures speak for themselves. My favorite is the last one: That’s Santa’s special cookie for tonight, imprinted by Bella just in case he needs identification. Enjoy and have a wonderful holiday!

Hear that? No, really … take a good listen.

It’s the sound of me exhaling, accompanied by a good, long stretch. I can’t begin to explain how great it feels to have made it up, up and over the busy fall/holiday season and be sitting on the downward side knowing that not only have all client products arrived on time, but we were able to get our own holiday cards out last week, too. It’s an unbelievable feeling! Tomorrow night, we even have a small group of photographer friends getting together for dinner and much-needed chatter. I can’t wait!

2008 was an amazing year and I’m so blessed and humbled by the support of my husband, my family, wonderful clients, friends and faithful blog readers. I could not in a million years have dreamed I would be at this point in my business, right here, right now. Keep watching the blog for several new items in 2009, including a new website design and new products.

I’ll be posting more client holiday cards later this week, but thought it appropriate to start with our own. We got lucky the afternoon we did this session. She had just woken from her afternoon nap and the light was fading quickly, but it was simply tooooo cold to go outside for pictures, so we threw on the holiday outfit and set up in my husband’s office … a small room with an east-facing window. Keep in mind what little light was left was on the other side of the house and I didn’t want to break out the flash. Luckily, my trusty 50/1.4 did the trick. This is what I love about natural light — the soft glow on the skin and the depth of contrast and tones. It almost looks like we were in a studio, but it was simply a chocolate leather couch.

The back image of our family was shot earlier this fall by my wonderful photographer friend,
Jamie Miller
. I had always wanted this shot for our family, but we never seemed to find the time to get our own family shots taken in the same manner that I do for my clients (isn’t that the case with most photographers?) So thank you, Jamie, for giving us such a beautiful gift that we will treasure forever.

Happy Holidays to all!

and lip-smackin’ good, dark chocolate cupcakes. I mean really – does it get any better than this? Our little mouse had a blast for Halloween with school friends, neighborhood trick-or-treating and a special visit from Grandma Gail.
