A huge CONGRATULATIONS to Ryan, Amy, Pete and Nicole and an even bigger thank you to everyone for spreading the word, getting the vote out and simply for the awesome support of my work.
To commemorate 2009, I’m hosting a 2009 “Image of the Year” Contest. I have absolute favorites from each and every session, so narrowing hundreds down to less than 50 was impossible for me. I have special memories of every single session, so I asked for a little unbiased help from a few friends in scaling my favorites down to 28. The images below were selected for a variety of reasons and each conveys its own unique emotion, sense of texture, composition or color.
Now it’s up to you to choose who gets the title of “2009 Image of the Year” at Kami Brady Photography and the fabulous prize that goes with it. Happy voting and best of luck to everyone!

2009 Year in Review l Kansas City photographer
What a fantastic year! It’s been a blessing to be able to do what I’m passionate about for clients who truly appreciate the art in the imagery. So THANK YOU for an amazing year filled with bellies, babies, toddlers, big kids, high school seniors, families and more. To celebrate, I’m holding a BIG promotion and contest – watch the blog tomorrow for details. You don’t want to miss it!
In the meantime, enjoy a special slideshow looking back at the many faces, bellies, piggytails and piggy toes that truly made me smile this past year (click on the play “arrow” in the middle and turn up the speakers to hear the music):
It’s the busiest and often, most stressful season for a child/family photographer. Lots of late, late nights and jam-packed days spent designing holiday cards, editing fall sessions and placing holiday orders. But today I answered the door to the most awesome surprise. She was picking up her images and arrived with a gift for me. It was a reminder of why this is such an amazing career … and a definite cause to stop and smile. And be very thankful. I have the best clients who truly “get” the art in custom photography, the most supportive family and friends and the opportunity to keep growing this business. And despite being super tired right about now, I am incredibly thankful.
So, Melissa, you made my day with your heartfelt note and beautiful flowers! Thank you!

The candy, that is. Those poor Twizzlers didn’t even stand a chance. And the Skittles … forgeddaboutit. Bat Girl was out in full force last night and we have the pictures to prove it.
Happy Day After Halloween … and day two of the enormous sugar highs. (Forgot to mention: This one is for Aunt Judy who says I don’t post enough Bella images.)

So you want to be a photographer? {Resources for photographers}
Maybe you already are a photographer. Maybe you’re a hobbiest photographer who really only wants a little spending money or perhaps you’ve been in business several years now and are trying to put food on the table and support a family. Regardless of your status, I’d highly recommend reading Jodie Otte’s latest article — “How should I price my photography?” — as a guest author on the MCP Actions blog. In two words: It’s brilliant. It lays it out there like few others I’ve read and is eye-opening in so many ways. I’ve been meaning to get out here to post this link for a few days now — I can’t underscore enough how valuable I think Jodie’s experience and advice is.
