I photographed a host of gorgeous newborns this fall, including beautiful Ava and her family. Like all of my newborn sessions, I had several setups planned  - on average, around 4 unique compositions – so my fingers were crossed that she would allow the session to flow as I had imagined. Every baby is unique and not every baby arrives asleep, stays fast asleep exactly when I want them to or wants to be placed in certain positions. Even at 5-10 days old, they truly have little minds of their own … as I like to say, “it’s their world and we just live in it.”

Despite being awake at various times throughout our session, she was what I like to call “quiet calm” – just taking in the world around her. I love a curly, sleepy newborn pose as much as the next, but it’s a wonderful thing to capture the eyes wide open, too.

Aside from the beautiful images we achieved, my favorite part of our session was when her dad said, “I now get why it’s important to hire a professional; what you do here is really art and it requires a special skill and lots of patience.” That is seriously one of the best compliments I’ve ever received.
