I’ve had the pleasure of shooting and designing their holiday card for the past few years, but they had a little something extra to be thankful for this year. Something of the two-legged variety with ten tiny fingers and ten tiny toes.  He arrived before Thanksgiving and I think he’s just perfect.

These are a few of my favorites from their holiday card mini-session and the resulting combined holiday/birth announcement card design. (Names blurred for privacy; custom-knitted hat by Angelbeez.)

I really don’t have to say a word about how much I loved the fabulous textures and color of her outfits. Or her hair. Her expressions. Her ‘bring it on” personality. Or her favorite furry accessory in the first image. Sort of explains the term ‘puppy dog eyes’ doesn’t it?

Nope. I’m not gonna say a word. I’ll just let the pictures do the talking.

(Hint: the pictures are shouting ‘holy cow’. Loudly. )

My phone rang less than a minute after we’d finished our session and were headed home in our respective cars. It was his mom:

“I just called to let you know that right after I strapped him into his seat, he reversed his baseball hat, leaned back casually and said, ‘Awesome.’”

To which all I could do was smile from ear to ear.  Because three-year-old boys can be a tough crowd in this business and I know that one little “awesome” is about the best affirmation a photographer can get.

Oh yeah.  I think he’s pretty awesome, too.

I’ve had this vision for awhile of doing a family in tuxedo formal on vintage furniture outdoors. You can imagine my delight when one of my favorite clients had the same vision. After a few reschedules of this season’s holiday mini sessions due to that crazy October weather, I think we pulled it off. Can’t wait to show you their holiday card in about a week when I post several of the client samples!

Remember this sweet boy with that thick little mop on top?

Well, a few haircuts later (yes, full on haircuts, people … and he’s only 7 months old!), and he’s still garnering his fair share of aaahs. I happen to think his eyes are going to stay that beautiful shade of blue/green – a rarity on a dark-haired child. Here are a few from our recent 7-month session that made me smile:

You’ve seen her here on the blog since before birth when we did mom’s maternity session. And now, at nine months old, she’s quite the mover and shaker. She came decked out in her finest holiday attire for several beautiful outdoor shots against the last golden field we could find and the red velvet settee. You can imagine the looks we got as we staged ourselves right off the road. Then, in true diva fashion, we changed outfits and took our session indoors. I’ve always been a 100 percent natural light shooter and really, really preferred it, but this was my first attempt at studio lighting thanks to my friend Carmen and I immediately fell in love. My own studio lighting arrived a few weeks ago and is here in my office still in the boxes; yes, I’m itching to get it out and play!

It certainly didn’t hurt one bit that Kenadie rocked that tutu and pearls like a true little diva. Enjoy a few of my favorites — I’ll post the family shots and their holiday card a bit later this month. More to come on the blog — about 12 sessions’ worth to be exact, so stay tuned.
