This is the time of year when the blog gets a little neglected and late-night editing is a norm at least until the holiday rush is over.  If you could see my office right now, you’d know what I’m talking about. I have big plans to get everything organized again …. right after …. well, maybe December. But in the meantime, I couldn’t head off to bed without posting this quick peek from my latest natural light newborn session. It’s not really a peek for mom and dad – they’ve already seen their full gallery of images, but I thought sweet Evie (yes, this is the second newborn Evie I’ve photographed of late) might just make you smile in the event that your house has been hit by the pre-holiday chaos or – worse – the flu. I’m so behind on blogging, but will try to catch up in the next few days. Next up on the blog:  Katie and David, Ethan and his family and some peeks from the holiday mini sessions.

I’m gonna go out on a limb here and say the green apples were a hit.

From my perspective, so were the piggy tails and the hot pink (you know how I love my pink, people). I mean, seriously, I melted when I saw the outfits and that hair.  You may remember Lauren and those inquisitive looks from her 3-month baby session here on the blog. She was the most laid back baby, happy baby then, and nothing’s changed other than ability to get where she wants to go. We also captured several GREAT shots with the entire family, including their dog who hopped into one of our shots at precisely the right moment. You can’t plan for things like that, but you end up pinching yourself when it happens. I’ll post those to the blog at a later date when they’ve chosen their holiday card images. Next up on the blog: David, Katie and newborn Evie.

Maybe you already are a photographer. Maybe you’re a hobbiest photographer who really only wants a little spending money or perhaps you’ve been in business several years now and are trying to put food on the table and support a family. Regardless of your status, I’d highly recommend reading Jodie Otte’s latest article — “How should I price my photography?” — as a guest author on the MCP Actions blog. In two words: It’s brilliant. It lays it out there like few others I’ve read and is eye-opening in so many ways.  I’ve been meaning to get out here to post this link for a few days now — I can’t underscore enough how valuable I think Jodie’s experience and advice is.

Sharing another fantastic fall session with one-year-old Kendall and her beautiful family … Mom reminds me a little bit of model Kathy Ireland. The hair, the smile and the eyes, yes?

You’d never guess it was one of the windiest, chilliest mornings on record for us in October, but it was. And Kendall was such a trooper, even when we were nearing morning nap time and all she really wanted was a snuggle and some Goldfish. It’s the simple things after all.  Needless to say, I was wildly excited about the colors in her outfits – especially the signature hot pink. We had a fantastic time exploring the park and this was one session (well, one of many) where my 70-200L came in handy, allowing me to hang back a bit and just observe Kendall with mom and dad. Below are some of my favorites from this session. Next up on the blog: Lauren, David and Katie.

Lots of color, laughter, love … a bit of posing … a bit of spontaneity … and a whole ‘lotta fun. Can you tell we had a great morning?

You may recall this family from a summer session a year ago. I love repeat clients because I get to see how the kids have grown and we often get to explore an entirely different kind of session than when we last met. Such is the case here with their urban family photography session. Enjoy some of my favorites!

It was just a phrase chalked onto the side of a building. But the words couldn’t have been more fitting for a the life and decisions of someone checking off the details of her last year of high school and preparing for college. Oh the decisions she’ll have to make and responsibilities she’ll assume but, for now – and hopefully well into her future – “it’s as simple as it should be.” I’d like to think it was painted there just for her. And somehow, I think she’s going to remember it well beyond our session.

Our morning felt effortless as we got into a groove and made our way around town. She immediately “got” my posing cues and was up for anything – even the mid-air jump in perfect form. (Love it!) Thank God no one snapped me trying to demonstrate with gear hanging around my neck. Our session culminated near the Plaza with her furry little diva, Izzy, stealing the spotlight for several shots. I was “this close” to smuggling that cute little mug outta there in my camera bag, I swear.

Meet Shelby. Class of 2010. Natural beauty. Athlete. And as simple as she should be.
