Simply stunning {Kansas high school senior photographer}
It’s 1 a.m. and I promised myself I wouldn’t go to bed without posting this peek from my most recent high school senior photography session. I know she’s dying to see them. I simply don’t have one singular favorite … there are too many to choose from and so many more where these came from. So this peek is long, but so worth the wait.
If I were going to write a long story to go with this post, it would say something about her reminding me of the classic beauties from another era, especially in the vintage dress and the field of flowers. It would say something about how we had perfect overcast skies the day before our scheduled session and a forecast of bright, sunny skies the day of our session. It would say how much I longed for nice, overcast skies (nature’s perfect filter) the next day and, to my surprise, woke up to a thick layer of fog. It would say something about the abandoned old barn where we shot in the fog and found the most magical light. It would talk about the fact that we had beautiful, open shade everywhere we wanted to shoot that morning and the shots straight out of camera were simply stunning. But it’s 1 a.m. and I know she’ll be way more interested in the pictures than my words. And I need to pack for a welcome weekend away from the computer … bringing my camera just for fun to capture Bella at the State Fair.
So, without further ado, meet Elle. Class of 2010. Classic beauty.

A girl’s got a right to be blue {Kansas City baby photographer}
… and red … and pink.
She’s a girl of many moods, pensive expressions and full on belly laughs. So why not many colors? I’d say with eyes like that, she can do just about anything she wants to do.
You’ve seen Esmee on the blog since she was just a beautiful bump in mom’s belly and, at our most recent 9-month session, she shook things up a bit, straying from her signature pink (think “girly girl pink” … loads of it in her closet and her gorgeous nursery) for something a little outside her norm. In true diva style, I’d say she worked it! Enjoy some of my favorites from her session. Next up on the blog: Elle’s high school senior session.

She’s got them wrapped {Kansas City baby photographer}
And who among us could blame them?
Meet Aishlynn. Blue-eyed beauty. Avid reader. “This close” to being a mover and a shaker in the toddler ranks. And future Husker, Class of 2029.

With Grace {Kansas City newborn photographer}
Meet 10-day-old Grace (born the same day as Hannah in the next post below) and her very doting big brother. This was the second of two wonderful families and their beautiful new babies that I photographed recently. I tell all new parents who are hoping for a shot of an older sibling between the ages of 2-5 with the new baby that we often just go with the flow and see what we can get. I have to say these two little guys (see next post for the other new big brother) broke the mold in terms of sibling shots. I felt like we hit the jackpot because they were so eager to love on their new baby sisters.
Enjoy some of my favorites from Grace’s newborn session. All images were shot with natural light and my trusty Canon 24-70/2.8L. Both gorgeous hats are the artistry of Angelbeez. Watch the blog tomorrow for one-year-old Aishlynn and her bright, big blue eyes. Yep, it’s officially the busiest season!

Hannah {Kansas City newborn photographer}
I recently did two newborn sessions back-to-back and, in addition to being beautiful baby girls, they both had blue-eyed, blonde-haired big brothers who were very curious about the new arrivals in their homes. Both babies did so well during their sessions, giving me an opportunity to – once again – play with color and textures and try out a few new visions dancing around my head. And even though I gravitate toward bright hues, I was absolutely loving rich black and white images for several shots from this session.
Meet Hannah. 10 days old and oh-so-content. Tomorrow, check the blog for baby Grace.

He did this all on his own … I mean, seriously, how sweet is that!

Not the “new” baby anymore, but I couldn’t leave this next shot off the blog. Look at those eyes!

For Amy {Kansas City baby photographer}
Dear Mom,
I’d like to say it’s been hard keeping this under wraps, but Dad promised me McDonald’s French toast sticks in exchange for my silence. Have you had the French toast sticks lately? You have? Then you know the mere thought of warm bread, cinnamon, powdered sugar and syrup would keep a canary quiet. And let’s be honest here. I only have about a dozen words in my spoken vocabulary and none of them sound like “surprise photography session.”
So after weeks of quiet cavorting about outfits, locations and timing, Dad managed to sneak a bag of wadded up clothing past you and off to Grammie’s house for some pre-session preparation. (You know how particular Grammie is about wrinkles.) The next morning, Dad managed to sneak me out of the house sans bag for some quote-unquote father/son bonding time. He’s pretty slick. But, in this case, the real mastermind was none other than Grammie herself.
I heard Dad say that the photographer was over the moon – whatever that means – when Grammie proposed the idea of a lifestyle photography session with just me and her. But I’m still not sure what the big deal was. After throwing on my Cardinals outfit for a few quick snaps of me and Dad hamming it up in the grass, we just played hide and seek, went for walks and blew bubbles … the same kinds of things I like to do with Grammie when I’m not keeping a secret. I guess the only difference was the crazy photographer who kept making these barnyard sounds and calling my name. At one point, she even started singing the theme song from “Wonder Pets.” I don’t want to be rude, but she should probably stick to taking pictures.
While this blog peek may come as a surprise to you, what shouldn’t surprise you is how much Grammie and Dad love you.
Oh yeah, me, too.
But you already knew that you hung my moon, didn’t you.
Love,
Brendan
P.S. I’m pretty sure the photographer stole my bubbles. You know the really good ones that Dad bought at the Dollar Store. The way I see it, it isn’t my fault that the bubbles she bought were defective. If you see her, please let her know the clock is ticking. I want my bubbles back.
