You’ve seen her here every three months for the past year and now she’s officially joined the ranks of the movers and shakers. She’s one and there’s simply no stopping her. And she’s still just as curious and observant as ever showering us with a gazillion kinds of expressions. She’s got a laid back, sunny personality and we had a ball – and a few bubbles – during our session. It’s been my absolute pleasure being a part of her first year and watching her grow. This is a long post, but I have a lot of favorites to share!

I shot most of the session with my 70-200/2.8L and can’t say enough how much I LOVE the creamy backgrounds this lens provides, especially in this next image. That is the background straight out of camera, no Photoshopping the  green grass to blur it … amazing:

This one was begging for black and white:

Last time you saw her, she was just six days old at her newborn session. Here’s a peek at her three-month session that I’m currently working on. It never ceases to amaze me how much they change in just three short months, from the irresistible baby chubs to all the new expressions. Happy Mother’s Day!

I fell in love with this baby and this session all over again during editing. These are some of my all-time favorites … The little blue chair was actually my little rocking chair when I was a child. It had been sitting in storage for some time and one day, the words “Chevy Blue” came to mind. I described the vision to Andrew and he took it from there … all in a single afternoon. He and the chair truly rock. I love it!!

As promised, here’s part two of Esmee’s six-month session … can you say “color”?

Love this one in black and white, too.

Happy Wednesday! I’m getting ready to post new peeks from several fabulous sessions between now and Sunday. In the meantime, enjoy one of the best articles I’ve ever seen written about photography as a business. I get asked about pricing a lot from other photographers and hobbyists wanting to get into the photography business. On the flip-side, it’s often hard to explain all that goes into photography as a business. While everyone eventually does what works best for them, this article does an incredible job of explaining the time, resources, etc. that go into a photography business and how that is reflected in the prices a photographer chooses to present:

Why Does Custom Photography Cost So Much?

by Marianne Drenthe at www.professionalchildphotographer.com

The digital revolution has brought amazing flexibility and ability to control various factors during the image taking and making process.  Photographers, the hobbyist, the professional, the amateur all benefit from this ability to manipulate pixels.  However, with flexibility comes a price.  Digital camera equipment is still considerably more expensive when you factor in its’ lifespan, the need for additional resources for processing those images, the time it takes to get a usable image and the effort that goes into creating a work of photographic art.

We all know that you can go to the local Walgreen’s and pay a $1.99 for a print – as a client you may wonder why you may pay upwards of $50, $70, $90 for a custom photography print.   Photographers hear this statement every once in awhile:

“How in the world can you charge $60 for an 8×10 if it costs me less than $2 to print at x store?”

The truth of the matter is the answer to this question is multifaceted.  Much of the cost of a photographic print produced by a professional photographer has a lot to do with the time,  equipment costs, artistic vision and reputation of the photographer not to mention expertise and the usual costs of running a legitimate business.  Read the rest of this article …

…. isn’t she growing into her own little vibrant personality … This is a quick peek (I know it’s killing them not to see all of the images yet, but trust me when I say they’re soooo worth the wait!) from her six-month session. You’ve seen her before … and I mean, really, who could forget these baby blues? More to come from her session, so keep watching the blog.
