There’s just something about 10 perfect little toes and 10 perfect little fingers that I find completely irresistible. Below are three quick peeks of the session I’m currently working on. He was born two weeks ago today and his entry into this world was one I’m certain they won’t soon forget (Mom broke the hospital record with four failed epidurals and two spinals), but I’d be willing to bet … without one hint of a doubt … they would have endured so much more to meet this little man.

Meet Gus. 10 fingers, 10 toes and nearly nine pounds of pure perfection. Look at that rock star hair!

(Edited to add: Check out more of his images here in the latest blog post.)

Can’t decide if I like this in color or black & white the best!

Three years ago today, we were beside ourselves with fear and amazement having just delivered this:

Now, three years later, we’re still beside ourselves most days with a different kind of fear (mostly for her safety amid exceptionally daredevil ways) and the same jaw-dropping amazement. She keeps us on our toes, for sure. But her smile, quick sense of humor, spunky attitude  and kind spirit occupy the very brightest spots in our hearts. She’s a girly-girl and a tom-boy all rolled into one who likes Toot and Puddle, Nemo, strawberries with homemade whipped cream, taking baths in the “big” bathtub, playing soccer and finding new ways to antagonize her furry buddy, Baker.

Today, our Bella Bug is three years old and all of a sudden, she’s looking like a big girl to us.  It began about a month ago when we woke up one day and all of her pants were suddenly two inches two short. I always tell my clients I can often “see” what their little ones are going to look like as adults after spending many hours staring at their images on the computer screen during post-processing. And I have to say, the bicycle pictures below are the first time I’ve been able to see that in my own child.
She had an amazing birthday weekend of celebrations with little friends, her favorite babysitter (thank you for coming, Abby!), and lots of spoiling from Grandmas, Grandpa and Uncle Kory. I’ll let you guess which gift was the big hit, hands down.

I just wrapped the post-processing on this session and couldn’t let these go without sharing. Be sure to visit part one of his peeks a few posts down the page. I’m sad this was our final First Year session, but I know it won’t be the last time I photograph this sweet little man. I know these will put a smile on your face.

P.S. The train tracks are abandoned and actually end as they mesh into the grass just past the horizon for those of you who may be wondering about safety.

As I type this, they’re making plans to go to the hospital tomorrow (yes, tomorrow!) to have baby number four. Our session was just a little over one week ago and I think I speak for everyone when I say mom has taken “I’m-due-to-give-birth-in-one-week” to a whole new level of FABULOUS! She looks amazing, is clearly loving this pregnancy and wanted to capture their family in this “expectant” state one last time. So we melded a traditional maternity session into a family session and voile! Despite one of the windiest shooting days I can recall in a long time, we captured so many wonderful images – these are some of my favorites as I make my way through post-processing. There are several more that I’ll post once their full gallery is live. In the meantime, enjoy, and send your positive thoughts their way as they welcome two more little feet  into the fold tomorrow.

We had so much fun this weekend and never stopped going, going, going during our visit with family “back home.” It was great and I can’t express enough how much I love our family get togethers, complete with aunts, uncles, cousins, grand babies and, now, grand babies’ babies. Even though life is constantly evolving and we’re all getting older, it always seems like nothing’s really changed. So a big THANK YOU and I love you to Aunt Judy and Uncle Bob for hosting us Saturday afternoon; Grandpa Tom, Kory and Sheri for hosting us Saturday evening; and especially Grandma Gail for hosting us during our whole visit and ensuring the Easter bunny found his way to your house. We had a blast and, as I type this, my eyes are burning I’m so worn out!

So is our own little “bunny rabbit.” It took her exactly 15 minutes to go from 60 m.p.h. downstairs to snoring (yes, snoring) happily in her bed. She colored Easter eggs for the first time with Grandma Gail, hunted eggs outside for the first time with her little family buddies and ate way tooo much sugar. But the smile on her face says it all.

The last picture is truly the best kind of snapshot. For those of you wondering how ISO 1600 looks on the 5D, this is it. I didn’t bring my flash, so just bumped up the ISO to capture Bella and Grandpa Tom swapping hats. I’d say he’s rockin’ the Dora hat.

It’s so hard to believe we began our First Year sessions a year ago with this sweet shot:

And look at him now! One year old and the best disposition. Grandma and Grandpa came along for this one and I’m so glad to have met them and spent a windy, but otherwise beautiful Saturday morning downtown. I love this family! It’s a truly great thing about the First Year baby photography program because we get to know one another and, at the end of the first year, families have a keepsake collection of images documenting each expression and milestone. I’m about midway through processing this session and these are some of my very favorites. Enjoy Brendan and his urban photo safari!
