It’s been said that “the cobbler’s children have no shoes …” Not so for photographer’s kids. At least the little ones of my photographer friends. Their kids, like mine, are some of the most photographed children around. As a matter of fact, I’m trying really hard to get myself out from behind the lens and in front of it more often with my child. Looking through her first year album brought me to that revelation. But, although I snap, snap, snap away at her … and have done so since the day she was born, I’ve found I have to schedule the formal stuff (like 18 month pics) into my calendar just like I would any of my clients even though I’m the one capturing the moments … So much to my delight, despite a freezing Sunday morning and a toddler who moves at the speed of light these days with an even shorter attention span, my husband and I managed to capture some really wonderful images of our “Bella Bug” at 18 months. Below is a 10×20 collage I designed of some of my favorites from the session.

Aren’t these four the cutest?!? “Mom” and “Dad” were looking for just the right holiday card image and we managed to capture several on Saturday morning … As I sit here writing this post having been in and out of the blustery cold all day today, I’m pretty certain we took advantage of the last great Fall weekend and those amazing colors. They brought their two furbabies along for the fun and they did so well! And those squirrels and ducks at the park were no match for the squeaky toy turkey when it came to getting their attention (the dogs, not mom and dad :-) ) Here’s a quick preview of some of my favorites. Your gallery is uploading as I type this. It was so nice meeting you!

This little one was just three weeks old when we met for her session … and I am in total amazement over how alert and mellow she was. I’m sure it has nothing to do with the fact that she’s got three older siblings bustling about and loving on her at all times. Mom was so relaxed — which I’m sure comes with the territory of having four under the age of 5! And we think we’re busy! It was so nice to meet your family and share this special time with you — what a blessing for the holidays. These are some of my favorites from your session. Watch your e-mail over the weekend for a link to your full gallery and a big thanks for letting me be creative with your new bundle … she is truly beautiful.

We had the very best fall weather on Sunday … I swear it was 70 degrees by the end of our shoot mid-morning. Fantastic! This little guy just turned two and was a delight to photograph. What a little trooper he was as we explored the farmstead animals and stopped here and there for some smiles, several laughs and wonderful expressions. My theme last weekend was all about the blue eyes (see the next post down, too) and little “A” surely didn’t disappoint. Mom and Dad — it was so nice meeting you and spending a great morning behind the lens. Enjoy your sneak peeks! Your online gallery will be live this weekend.

Kansas City has a number of historical sites and one of them just happens to be right in our neighborhood … one of the oldest remaining stage coach stops on the Sante Fe Trail. Today, it’s an awesome, functioning farmstead and the old house still stands in great shape where they give tours throughout the season. So what better place to capture fall memories and keep the little ones interested in the process! I’ve known this family for quite awhile and think the world of them … and I was completely amazed at how much the kids have grown since I last saw them! Despite the cold, they were such troopers and even managed a hug for one another at the very end of our session. One of my favorite shots is below where big brother is sharing a small flower bud with little sister … just an ordinary moment that captures what Dad tells me their relationship is like. Happy early birthday to “B” and enjoy your sneak peeks. :-)

I last photographed this little one while he was just a beautiful bump on mommy (see her maternity session here). Now, he’s the latest, perfect little addition to their family … a younger brother to twin sisters and a puppy named Zoe. :-) Look at those eyes! His scrunchy, “little old man” imitation made us laugh and I just had to post it here as it’s one of my favorites. And then there’s the way he moves his bottom lip to one side — something mom tells me he does right before falling asleep. These are the special faces of my newest little subject. Thanks for spending the afternoon with me! Enjoy your sneak peeks and look for your gallery online in a few days.
